Our Mission
Collar Scholars is a club at the University of Colorado Boulder dedicated to raising and training future service dogs for Canine Companions, while also increasing awareness and respect for assistance dog teams.
Here, we meet monthly to provide information about how to become a puppy sitter and raiser on campus, allow for puppy training, and keep members updated on university and Canine Companions regulations. We also educate the CU community about Canine Companions and service dogs in general to foster a greater understanding and respect for service animals and their handlers.
Canine Companions is a non-profit organization that provides assistance dogs to individuals with disabilities completely free of charge through the support of volunteers, donors, and the community. Although we are most familiar with Canine Companions, all service dog teams and puppies in program are welcome at Collar Scholars.

Our Founder
Nicole Kirk is a University of Colorado Boulder 2020 graduate, with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Integrative Physiology.
With the help of Daryn, our first service dog graduate, Nicole established Collar Scholars at CU Boulder in 2020. Although the new club wasn't as involved as anticipated due to the COVID-19 pandemic, her hours of dedication and provided resources have given current members the materials to help Collar Scholars continue to thrive. We are extremely grateful to Nicole for all she has done.
We wish her a promising and successful future in PA school. Thank you and good luck, Nicole!
